The CVTEA allows a maximum of 50 sites visits per year unless approved otherwise.

No changes to the Standards of Accreditation or the Recommended and Essential Skills occurred in the January 2023 P&P.

ANNUAL ACCREDITATION FEES
 

Invoices for the 2023 AVMA CVTEA Annual Accreditation Fee have been posted in the AVMA CVTEA Online Accreditation System by Armature https://cvtea.avma.org/ under the DOCUMENTS tab. The fee for 2023 is $1,745 (a reduction of $115 from 2022). Payments are due no later than April 15, 2023, or programs may be subject to a $500 penalty fee and Administrative Probation with a penalty fee up to double the annual accreditation fee.
WELCOME NEW CVTEA MEMBERS
 

CVTEA welcomes two new members to the CVTEA:

Dr. Ricci Karkula representing Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Large Animals fulfilling an un-expired term until 2025. Dr. Karkula earned her DVM from Texas A&M University, College Station, TX. In addition, she is certified in Large Animal Veterinary Medical Acupuncture from Colorado State University. Dr. Karkula is a former president of the Student AVMA and currently an Associate Veterinarian at an Equine Hospital in Navasota.

Dr. Mary Beth Angeline, EdD representing the public fulfilling an un-expired term until 2026. Dr. Angeline earned her EdD Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration from West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV where she currently serves as the Math Program Coordinator and as a Project 168 Volunteer Coach. She is a former Assistant Professor at Pierpont Community and Technical College, Fairmont, WV.
WELCOME NEW CVTEA STAFF
 

Team CVTEA is pleased to announce two new staff members:
Celebrating 50 years Dr. Elizabeth Thompson joined the AVMA January 3, 2023 as an Associate Director in the Education & Research Division. This new position will be responsible for working with the CVTEA, the AVMA-NAVTA Leadership Committee, and the newly formed veterinary technician advancement committee. Dr. Thompson received her DVM from the University of Tennessee and an EdD in Higher Education from Lincoln Memorial University. Prior to joining the AVMA, she was teaching faculty with the Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Veterinary Technology Program starting in 2009, appointed Department Chair in 2013, and subsequently appointed Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences in 2015. Dr. Thompson was one of the original faculty members of the LMU College of Veterinary Medicine founded in 2014. Prior to academia, Dr. Thompson practiced for six years as an emergency/critical care veterinarian, and later as an associate at a mixed animal practice. She also served on the Tennessee State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners from 2016 – 2022 and on the CVTEA from 2017 until her hiring at the AVMA representing faculties of colleges of veterinary medicine.
Celebrating 50 years Ms. Lynn Reece, RVT joined the AVMA November 10, 2022 as a part-time Assistant Director in the Education & Research Division. This new position will be responsible for assisting the CVTEA with accreditation site visits. Ms. Reece is a former CVTEA member representing non-program affiliated veterinary technicians from 2006 – 2015 and served as Chair of the CVTEA 2014-2015. Other AVMA entities of service include the Veterinary Technician Utilization Working Group and the Task Force on AVMA Model Practice Act. Prior to the AVMA and retirement from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine (UG-CVM), Ms. Reece was employed as a Laboratory Manager for the Department of Small Animal Medicine at the UG-CVM. She is a past president of the Georgia Veterinary Technician and Assistant Association. Lynn earned her degree in veterinary technology from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
CVTEA CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
 

Are you interested in helping to shape the future of veterinary technology education?

CVTEA is looking for volunteers to fill six committee positions beginning in July 2023. Applications are due February 15, 2023, for candidates interested in these positions:
  • Three committee members representing veterinary technicians
  • Veterinarian representing clinical veterinary medicine, small animal
  • Veterinarian representing faculties of colleges of veterinary medicine
  • Veterinarian or veterinary technician representing veterinary medicine industry
Candidates selected for the positions representing veterinary technicians, small animal medicine, and college faculties will serve committee terms running 2023-2029. The position representing industry is an unexpired term, which runs through 2028. Veterinary technician applicants must be credentialed, and be a graduate of an AVMA CVTEA-accredited veterinary technology program.
