LLX 2024 Marketplace Sustainability Contest The ALA Conference Committee in partnership with the Sustainability Round Table invites exhibitors to participate in the LLX Marketplace Sustainability Contest.
Exhibitors who choose to compete in this friendly competition will be rewarded with fanfare and press during LLX.
ALA members and library staff are increasingly environmentally and socially conscious. They actively seek products and services that align with their values. Promoting your business through actionable activities and choices at ALA conferences is one way we can connect you to your consumers through a different lens.
How to participate: Your first step will be to fill out a questionnaire which includes taking the sustainability pledge which asks for a donation to Native, a public benefits company and certified B Corp, to offset your conference travel carbon emissions. This year we are supporting The Crow Lake Wind Project. On Saturday, January 22 between 9:30 am and noon, a team of library workers and ALA staff will visit your booth/table to judge your strengths in the following areas:
1. Giveaways/swag (see the Sustainable Swag Self-Evaluation for Vendors)
a. Environmental
i. What are your giveaways made out of?
ii. What is the end of life of the product: landfill, upcycle, recycle?
iii. Is it wrapped in plastic? b. Basic social considerations
1. Are the products ADA compliant? 2. Did you consider how and where the products were produced? 3. Did you support a local business (where your company or you live)
2. After-hour events promotions (if applicable)
1. Are you supporting a local business - Women-owned, communities of color, lgbt and/or locally owned 2. Is the space ADA compliant? 3. Did you consider how people will get to the venue? 4. Are you promoting a responsible drinking culture? 5. Do you have a code of conduct and is it on display? 6. Did you consider the menu? Is it plant-based or meat-based?
3. Booth/Table
a. Does your display use a universal human-centered design? b. Are you able to reuse materials until the next design cycle? c. What is the end of life for the materials: landfill, upcycle, recycle?
On Sunday, January 23 - the exhibitors with the top 3 scores will be recognized and honored at 10 am.
