Never be afraid to try something new … with that introduction, the focus of this newsletter is about hiring the right people using the newest in assessment technology.

The lead article addresses an issue many employers are facing today – not enough good applicants.  In the second article I’m delighted to announce the release of our newest assessment, the PXT Select™, the successor to our ProfileXT assessment.  Developed by Wiley, the publisher of our assessments, the PXT Select™ not only provides the hiring manager with insight into a candidate’s cognitive abilities, behavioral traits, and interests, it also includes tips about the candidate’s potential job fit and relevant job-specific interview questions.
 
When Good Applicants Are Scarce, Select for Fit, and Train for Skills.   

In F. Leigh Branham's book, Keeping the People Who Keep You in Business, he makes this suggestion; "Interview applicants who may lack traditional qualifications, such as degrees or years of experience, but have the right abilities and can be trained," (emphasis added).  

If an employee has the right abilities, training for specific job skills can be both efficient and profitable.  Absent those right abilities, no amount of training is likely to produce a top performer and even a high level of skill will not keep him/her on the job.
