| I wonder ... |
| |
When a worker bee finds a food source, she flies back to the colony to tell others, using a series of vibration movements known as the "waggle dance!" During this "dance," the worker bee will move in an angled figure-eight pattern, vibrating her abdomen in the direction of the food source in line with a forty-five-degree angle from the sun. Since bees are extremely sensitive to physical movements, this is more than enough information for the rest of the workers to head out and collect the precious nectar needed to make honey for the hive.
What animal fact are you wondering about? Keep those questions coming! Yours just might get answered in a future issue!

| Wonderful winter interest |
As daylight shortens and leaves flutter from their summertime homes in the canopy to the security of the earth, the season of winter approaches. It can be a great challenge for a gardener to provide interest in the landscape during the cold, dreary months of winter. Some ways a "green thumb" can catch the attention of curious eyes is to consider color and texture of the shrubs and trees similar to the way a painter colors a canvas. Read more ... |
