Find Out More
Launched in October 2000, Lights On Afterschool is the only nationwide event celebrating afterschool programs and their important role in the lives of children, families and communities. The effort has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement and generates media coverage across the country each year.

The Afterschool Alliance organizes Lights On Afterschool to draw attention to the many ways afterschool programs support students by offering them opportunities to learn new things—such as science, community service, robotics, Tae Kwon Do and poetry—and discover new skills. The events send a powerful message that millions more kids need quality afterschool programs.

Clay, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion & Vigo Counties

The goal of the Success By 6 Grant Program for Early Childhood Literacy Projects is to provide funding to early childhood educators, child care providers, and/or early childhood focused community organizations for the purpose of conducting an experience that will nurture a love for reading and learning in young children (0 – 5) and their families.

Applications must be received no later than 4 PM, November 9, 2018.

Safe Sleep Regulations

Effective July 1, 2018 anyone working with infants must have the 2.5 hour face to face Safe Sleep training.  What does this mean for your facility?

Family Child Care – If you take infants, ALL staff that work in your home child care must have documented proof of completing the 2.5 hour face to face Safe Sleep training.  This includes those who may cover breaks, substitutes, etc.

Licensed Child Care Centers and Registered Ministries – If you care for infants, ALL staff that work in the infant room and any staff that may cover breaks or substitute in the infant room, must have completed the 2.5 hour face to face Safe Sleep training.

Safe sleep Certificates must be available upon inspection for your licensing consultant to review.

Please contact Jill, ext 34, to register for this training.

Kids Play Gym is hosting a sensory-friendly Halloween event in Bloomington.
Don't miss this wonderful opportunity, geared towards children 15 and under.

Shadow Portraits

Some sunshine, pavement, and sidewalk chalk are all you need for this simple activity incorporating both art and science (plus a lot of fun).Find a suitable space of pavement in full sun. Have one child pose, as still as possible, while a partner carefully traces around his shadow. Once the outlines are done, color or decorate in any creative way.Creating shadow portraits at different times of day will provide an interesting discussion about how shadows work—morning people will be much taller than noon people!
