Celebrating 100 Years of History at the Purdue Memorial Union
In this episode of “This Is Purdue,” we’re talking to Bob Mindrum, former director of the Purdue Memorial Union and author of “Purdue Memorial Union, The First 100 Years, 1924 to 2024.”
The Purdue Memorial Union — a longtime centerpiece of Purdue’s campus — is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Sept. 9, 2024.
In this episode you will:
- Learn about the history of the iconic Purdue Memorial Union from its fundraising efforts in the early 1900s to the newest renovations, like the Purdue Union Club Hotel.
- Explore the symbolic architecture by Pond & Pond architects, who also designed the unions at the University of Michigan, Michigan State University and the University of Kansas.
- Discover why PMU became a memorial for the Boilermaker military community and the ways this military significance is represented throughout the Union.

Purdue University Airport commercial flight promotion content package
Beginning May 15, 2024, commercial flight will return to the Greater Lafayette area. The Purdue University Airport (LAF) is your local connection to the world, offering 24 weekly round-trip flights from West Lafayette to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and over 240 available connecting destinations. As Indiana’s second-busiest airport in terms of total annual aircraft operations, we are building upon Purdue’s nearly 100-year legacy in aviation excellence to offer commercial flights between LAF and ORD seven days a week.

Instagram expands carousels to 20 frames Instagram carousels are getting bigger, with IG confirming that creators can now include up to 20 frames in a single carousel update. For Purdue: This provides more capacity to share your content on a dedicated theme or topic. However, we still recommend posting between 4-6 images unless it is a very special circumstance (and heavy differentiation in imagery) to avoid the risk of drop-off. This also appears to be rolling out slowly, so it’s possible your account still has a max of 10 frames.
