In accordance with AVMA policy, all information related to the CVTEA accreditation of a veterinary technology program is strictly confidential. This includes, but is not limited to, reports of evaluation, letters, self-evaluation and accreditation materials, interim or progress reports, correspondence, and the content of any discussion related to the veterinary technology program and/or its accreditation. All requests for information related to a specific institution and/or veterinary technology program must be referred to AVMA staff, or to the respective institution.

Freedom of Information Acts which may be applicable in a given state do not apply to AVMA confidential information related to the accreditation of veterinary technology programs. Information requested through such acts may be obtained through due process from the respective institution or state office.

CALL FOR PUBLIC COMMENT-STANDARDS OF ACCREDITATION
 


The AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (AVMA CVTEA) conducts ongoing review of the Standards based upon changes in the educational and professional community. Requests for modifying the Standards are received from a variety of sources, and action on these suggestions is the result of broad input by the profession.

The AVMA CVTEA has opened a public call for feedback for the following Standards, Skills, and Equipment.
  • Standard 8 (Students), Section 8a ONLY
  • Standard 9 (Faculty), Section 9e ONLY
  • Standard 11 (Outcomes Assessment)
  • Appendix F Cyclical review of Instructional Equipment
  • Appendix F Cyclical review of Clinical Equipment
  • Appendix G Cyclical review of Section 2 (Pharmacy and Pharmacology)
  • Appendix G Cyclical review of Section 5 (Surgical Nursing)
  • Appendix G Cyclical review of Section 8 (Laboratory Animal Procedures)

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
 


Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA)
The AVMA is seeking candidates to fill three positions on the AVMA CVTEA for six-year terms beginning in July 2025. Applications are due February 15, 2025, for candidates interested in these positions:
  • Veterinarian representing at-large
  • Veterinarian representing clinical veterinary medicine-large animal
  • Veterinary technician (recent graduates encouraged to apply)
Committee on Advancing Veterinary Technicians and Technologists
The AVMA is seeking candidates to fill two positions on the AVMA CAVTT for three-year terms beginning in July 2025. Applications are due March 1, 2025, for candidates interested in these positions:
  • Companion Animal Practice-Veterinarian
  • Non-Specialty Non-Clinical Practice – Veterinary Technician
CVTEA Selection Committee
The AVMA is seeking candidates to fill two positions on the AVMA CVTEA Selection Committee for three-year terms beginning in July 2025. Applications are due March 1, 2025, for candidates interested in these positions:
  • At-Large Veterinarian
  • At-Large Veterinary Technician
