Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 Since August 2025, the HUM Prayer Newsletter has been on a shared journey through the Beatitudes—exploring how these teachings speak into our own lives, the lives of our loved ones in need of healing and prayer, and the lives of the men and women we serve at Helping Up Mission. In the 7th beatitude, being a peacemaker starts with ourselves and removing our character defects (as we say in AA) or imperfections as Brene-Brown calls them. By becoming self-aware of behaviors like anger, selfishness, dishonesty, resentfulness, shame and fear – we can learn to show up for ourselves in a spirit of compassion and service for others. In the NA/AA world, the 7th Beatitude of peace aligns with step 9 – where we “make direct amends (of our harms and wrong doings) to people wherever possible...” The peacemakers—those who internalize and live by the traits listed in the Beatitudes by bringing peace to others—will become children of God and reign as “kings and priests … on the earth” (Revelation 5:10). As we lift our daily prayers—for our loved ones, for the men and women at HUM, and for all those on our prayer list—may we be transformed by mercy, grounded in grace, and filled with His divine peace. | .jpg)
