Safe Sleep Corner
All cribs or pack and plays that use a sheet MUST have a tight fitting sheet.  Since sheets can become misshapen due to washing and drying, you need to check the sheet regularly to be sure they still fit properly.  Sheets should not fit so tight that they curl up the edges of the mattress however, they should never be loose enough to pull the material up from the mattress.  To test the tightness, grab the sheet in the center of the mattress, and if you are able to gather it in your fist and pull up, it is too loose.  Babies can suffocate if they are able to grab the sheet and pull it up to their face while sleeping.  Always check measurements to ensure purchasing the correct size.  Sometimes, if the sheet isn’t fitting correctly, it is due to the mattress thickness.  Many times, the best sheet to purchase is the one made by the manufacturer of the crib or mattress itself.  Do not use jersey sheets (t-shirt like material), this fabric stretches and will always be too loose, and remember you cannot use elastic clips to hold the sheet down.

Please call Jill at ext. 34 if you need additional help/suggestions.

Angry Kids: Dealing With Explosive Behavior

It’s not uncommon for kids who have trouble handling their emotions to lose control and direct their distress at a caregiver, screaming and cursing, throwing dangerous objects, or hitting and biting. It can be a scary, stressful experience for you and your child, too. Children often feel sorry after they’ve worn themselves out and calmed down.
So what are you to do? Click here to read more strategies that might work for you.

Looking towards upcoming months...

Disability Awareness Month is almost here!!

March is the month we celebrate people with disabilities and spread awareness. No matter the differences between people, it is always better to treat others the way you want to be treated, and this is especially true when interacting with friends, co-workers, and other Hoosiers who live with disabilities. The 2018 Indiana Disability Awareness Month campaign theme "Be Cool. We are." is all about the importance of being comfortable in your own skin and making the conscious decision to be yourself, because acting different around someone with a disability isn't cool.

To order your FREE kit to spread the message to coworkers, parents
and children follow this link:
